General rules for safe using the Internet

1. Your computer should have installed and launched the following:
   • antivirus software, including an updated virus signatures database,
   • a  firewall, including up-to-date policies and rules,
   • tools for detecting malware (malware, spyware, trojans, keylogger, etc.).
2. Update as often as possible your operational system and used internet applications (browsers, email clients, etc.) by installing enhancements and patches for correcting gaps and mistakes in the operational system and applications published by producers. Use only well known and protected websites of producers publishing enhancements.
3. Be careful when copying files from the Internet, or opening email attachments, no matter whom they come from.
4. Do not install unknown applications send by emails or uploaded from suspicious websites.
   

General rules for safe using ESKOM website

1. Verifying data (login, password) should be provided only on the official ESKOM website.
2. Avoid, if possible, accessing ESKOM website from places such as: internet cafes, shared workstation with the Internet access (e.g. libraries). If you must log in such a place, check if a computer has a working firewall and antivirus software. When you finish, remember to remove data from the memory of browser.
3. Never answer emails, in which the sender asks you to give or verify your personal data or confidential data, such as login or password. ESKOM will never ask you for your password in the emails!

Recommended configuration of the browsers for an account in the ESKOM shop

1. For using account in the ESKOM shop we recommend the newest versions of the following browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox.
2. We allow the possibility of using other browsers for using the account in the ESKOM shop, on condition that they fulfil the following requirements:
   • working service of Java Script,
   • working service of temporary files, such as Cookie.
3. We recommend to install the most updated enhancements for the internet browser you have. It allows to protect it from detected weaknesses and potential dangers.
4. Make sure that the internet browser you use has an active service of Cookie files and that ESKOM website settings are not blocked for temporary files.
